“Research, research and more research. We listed everything we wanted in our place, which included being near express city bus routes, so we photocopied maps of the area and put on the bus routes. Anything outside of this was excluded immediately. We also wanted 4 bedrooms, so it got rid of a few more.
I think knowing what you want is half of it! We also spent a year before buying typing all sales results from the weekend papers in Excel so we had data on other houses in the street we were looking at. It really helped with bargaining. The secret to buying is being full of knowledge and being smart, not emotional.”
